Visualize Motorcycle Motion with MOTOrift

What does it do and why would you want to use it?

That's probably what you're wondering so I'm here to answer those questions and take a deeper look at how it all works. Chances are you're also wondering who made this app and what happens to your data.

At it's core, MOTOrift is an IMU data logger. An IMU sensor (in your phone) is a combination of three sensors each with three axis'. It takes your movements, measures them and puts them into numbers that represent how you were moving.

MOTOrift uses those numbers combined with GPS to create a "motion profile" of your motorcycle ride.

What good does it do? You can use MOTOrift to then analyze your motion profile (it's more than one app...) and learn about your riding style.

Once you learn more about the data and see what the data looks like in different riding conditions, depending on the road and your riding habits, you can get an idea of how your ride looks "in the data". After you've done that more and more you'll begin to analyze how you ride without really thinking about it. You'll then apply that new way of thinking to improve as a rider. As you visualize what your ride looks like in data as you ride, you'll also be thinking more about your riding style and how to meet x goal will follow.

I won't promise you anything major but it's a tool, a learning tool for your motorcycle rides. Just like a good wrench only goes so far to make you a better mechanic, it's a tool to help you accomplish something.

In this case what it helps you accomplish is learning about your riding style so you can improve on it.

It does 0-60 times, weather data and plenty more too.

Who made MOTOrift and why?

In this day and age I don't typically download an app if I'm not aware of who made it, who's behind it and how they make money from it. As much as I love software that's just how it is these days. If there are any questions I can answer for you, just ask using the chat form in the bottom right corner of the screen, or just use it to say hello!

Who am I? I'm Josh Willuhn. I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado it's a city at the foot of Pikes Peak. That's where I've lived most of my life and I started this app because I think it should exist.

I started it a few years ago and after an initial early version I pulled it from the Play store a year after launch. I learned as much as I could from it and about your expectations for an app like this and put all of it into a completely new version which is the MOTOrift you can download today.

There aren't any corporate sponsorships funding MOTOrift. I have a few partners that provide various aspects for the app like the database systems and the maps.

The maps are from Mapbox, they provide an awesome product and in return they collect some data from everyone using one of their map products. MOTOrift relies on Mapbox and that means when you use it some anonymous data goes back to them and you can easily disable it.

To disable it select the circled I (info) button along the bottom of any screen with a map. It does not remember your settings between the apps so you have to do it to both apps.

Other than that, your data stays on your phone until you Sync it with an optional RideCloud account. From there it sits on the MOTOrift web server and I don't use the data in any way to data mine or otherwise beyond how you can use it in the apps.

I don't make any money from your data except when you pay for a premium account

I take my personal privacy seriously and I want to provide a service worth trusting and I take your data very seriously.

Most of the free apps that exist these days really don't respect your data privacy and don't even make an attempt to. I believe in this app but the only way I can provide it is to charge money for it even if other apps are free.

See the pricing page for the most up to date pricing and features list.

Thanks for trying MOTOrift if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

Josh
