motorift.com How to use RPM Tune

Welcome to the motorift.com Engine Sim How To Guide, check out the getting started guide if you haven’t already, this tutorial picks up where it drops off. This tutorial will show you how to use the RPM Tune Simulation screen to simulate an engine’s torque curve.

To get started, select RPM Tune from the menu on the main simulation screen at the bottom of the menu:

Main Engine Simulation Screen

Scroll to the bottom of the screen to get familiar with it.

From this screen you can set the tune for each RPM, including the vacuum or boost curve, Air:Fuel ratio and BSFC or Brake Specific Fuel Consumption. The same parameters as the main screen but you can see it together in an RPM curve for overall engine performance.

To see it in action, Select 5000 rpm on the graph at the top of the screen. Next, raise the boost level to 10 psi, and the BSFC at 0.65 as shown below:

Now scroll back over to the “Results” tab < press “Refresh” and the graph should look similar to the one shown:

Choose the 5000 RPM spot and you’ll see details about it below the graph. Now scroll back over to the “Tune” Tab > and select 4000 RPM on the graph at the top of the screen:

Change the settings as shown and similar for the rest of RPM range. Scroll back to the Results Tab < and press Refresh to see the results.

Select an RPM spot on the graph to see details about it. In the example so far, 4000 RPM looks like this for the selected vehicle:

While 5000 RPM is:

The RPM Tune screen helps you tune your engine simulation for a specific RPM and estimate what a given tune will do for the whole RPM band.
